Dear MoveOn member,
As Trump and Republicans are advancing plans to cut Medicaid and kick 16 million people off their health care, today the MAGA majority on the Supreme Court took a drastic step in both gutting Medicaid and defunding Planned Parenthood.
In Medina v. Planned Parenthood, the Supreme Court is upholding South Carolina's law blocking Medicaid patients from accessing services at Planned Parenthood and claiming Medicaid patients don't have the right to sue their state in response.1 This ruling opens the door for states to remove Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood health centers—denying low-income patients their right to choose a health care provider they trust and rely on.
Millions of people across the country rely on Medicaid for health care and go to Planned Parenthood centers for annual cancer screenings, STI testing, birth control, and more.
This is just another attempt by the right wing to control our bodily autonomy and restrict us from receiving the essential health care we deserve. Planned Parenthood clinics are often one of the few places available that accept Medicaid for sexual and reproductive health care. Without Planned Parenthood being able to accept Medicaid, people may have nowhere to turn for care.
And Republicans in Congress aren't waiting for states to change their Medicaid rules, they're pushing a dangerous budget reconciliation package that would block Medicaid from being used at Planned Parenthood nationwide.
Every person deserves access to reproductive and sexual health care. Sign the petition now to demand that Congress protect Planned Parenthood!
Republicans are not just gutting Medicaid, they're weaponizing Medicaid as a means to defund Planned Parenthood and push their anti-abortion agenda.
These anti-abortion extremists are willing to strip millions of Americans from health care in order to push their political agenda to defund Planned Parenthood and attempt to ban abortion nationwide.
When South Carolina's governor gut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, he said, "Payment of taxpayer funds to abortion clinics, for any purpose, results in the subsidy of abortion and the denial of the right to life,"2 This is just another example of politicians putting their personal political agenda over the needs of Americans.
Proposed cuts to Medicaid and attempts to defund Planned Parenthood health centers amount to the same thing: Everyday people won't get the care they need, communities will suffer, and everyone's costs will skyrocket.
We need to show every member of Congress that their constituents oppose these cuts and are ready to fight back! Sign the petition now to demand that Congress protect Planned Parenthood!
Thanks for all you do.
