Dear MoveOn member,
"Lock yourself in a room if you must, don't go home, and GET THE DEAL DONE THIS WEEK," Donald Trump posted about his billionaire-backed, awful budget bill yesterday. "NO ONE GOES ON VACATION UNTIL IT'S DONE."1
Well, guess what, Trump? MoveOn isn't going on vacation, either.
Trump's billionaire-backed budget bill, as it stands, would rip health care away from 16 million people.2 Families could face as much as $22,800 in new medical debt.3 And the bill is estimated to cause 51,000 preventable deaths next year.4
With that at risk, this is an all-hands-on-deck moment. No one can afford to rest until this bill is soundly defeated—and we have only seven days.
MoveOn is working around the clock to mobilize millions of people to defeat Trump's terrible budget bill. Will you chip in $16 to help save Medicaid for 16 million people and stop this bill? (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Poll after poll show that across party lines, more than 80% of people oppose cutting Medicaid.5
And voters certainly don't want Medicaid cut in favor of giving $300,000 each to billionaires!6
The tide is changing in the U.S. We saw it this week with the victory of pro-universal-health-care candidate Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral primary.7 We saw it in the progressive candidate wins in Virginia's primary.8
Even Trump loyalist and North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis is sounding the alarm about what a mistake the Senate may be making with this bill.9 Republican Senators Josh Hawley, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins already said the same (but will almost surely fall in line in the end).10
But we have two barriers to stopping this bill.
First, despite how unpopular the bill's policies are, a staggering two-thirds of voters have "heard little or nothing at all" about the budget bill and what's actually in it.11
And second, Trump has set a July 4 deadline for this bill to get to his desk. It's the crown jewel of his administration, and Trump and his billionaire buddies are going to do whatever it takes to pass their gift to the ultra wealthy.
Andra, we have no time to lose. Once Trump's budget bill passes, there is no going back. Will you donate $16 to MoveOn and help stop this awful bill that will rip away health care from 16 million people? (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
You can see why MoveOn is working 24/7 to stop the bill.
We need to make sure as many people as possible know about what is at stake, which is why we are holding public events calling out senators for threatening our well-being with their terrible budget cuts and running social media ads, billboards, and doing so much more to educate the public about the direct impact of the budget bill.
Make no mistake, Andra, this bill isn't just a series of health cuts and tax breaks. The bill is a fundamental reshaping of how our government works—a total shifting of wealth and power away from the people and into the hands of corporations and a handful of billionaires. Every tool we have to overcome adversity and achieve equity, from education to Social Security to essential lifesaving services, will be impacted. We can't wait until it passes to fight back.
We can stop Trump's budget bill by mobilizing against it, but this work takes vast resources. Will you donate $16 to MoveOn and help see it through? (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Thanks for all you do.
