Fueled by a coalition of youth justice advocates, criminal legal system reformers, voting rights advocates, and people like you, Pamela, Louisiana voters showed up to the polls in force and delivered an extraordinary defeat to the changes proposed by Governor Landry and his allies.
Vera is proud to have supported efforts to defeat Amendment 3 and to be part of the Liberty and Dignity Coalition, which works across Louisiana for a healthy, equitable, and safe future for all.
As Sarah Omojola, director of Vera Louisiana, said in a statement this weekend: "In defeating Amendment 3, voters made clear their desire for the things that actually make our communities safer—like quality education and opportunity."
Every child deserves a chance to thrive—not a life defined by harm and incarceration.
We are thankful today and every day for your support as we work to ensure young people—and everyone impacted by the criminal legal system—have the safety and support they need to be healthy, whole members of their communities. In solidarity, Vera Institute of Justice |
