Pamela, our country has experienced a devastating series of extreme weather disasters this year, and it's only March. Wildfires have raged in communities from Southern California to the Carolinas. Extreme flooding turned fatal in parts of Kentucky. Historic snowstorms pummeled the mid-Atlantic and South. Catastrophic tornadoes tore through communities across the Midwest and the South.
Just when these extreme disasters are escalating, the Trump administration is choosing to gut funding for essential agencies and services like FEMA, NOAA, and the National Weather Service -- the resources our country taps to predict these disasters, send alerts, and provide relief to victims.
The climate crisis is here, it's urgent, and we need to show exactly what's at stake.
That's why we're launching a Climate Urgency Campaign to:
- Connect climate urgency to extreme weather nationally and in key states.
- Leverage meteorologists, first responders, and storytellers.
- Hold climate deniers accountable, and
- Build power for future fights.
If you've stored your info with ActBlue Express, we'll process your contribution instantly:
With your support, we'll be able to plan and fully execute these elements of the Climate Urgency Campaign:
⚡ RAPID RESPONSE: We'll monitor breaking news and identify moments to get news coverage connecting extreme weather to the climate crisis.
⚡ ELEVATE THE ECONOMIC STAKES OF INACTION: Working in partnership with businesses, local elected officials, labor, schools, and other stakeholders, we will create opportunities to elevate the cost of inaction.
⚡ ELEVATE KEY VOICES: We will work to elevate meteorologists, first responders, and storytellers in the media and online.
⚡ TAKE THE FIGHT TO CLIMATE DENIERS: More often than not, our side cedes ground to climate opponents by not showing up in unfriendly environments, which leaves attacks and denial unanswered. We are going to change that and make sure that some of our best surrogates are getting airtime with unfriendly channels and outlets as a specific strategy to break through the noise.
⚡ DRIVE NARRATIVE AROUND RELIABILITY: Clean energy is more reliable during extreme weather events. We'll ensure our partners and storytellers have the key data and facts to drive that narrative in the media.
As we look to the next few years, we know we must keep building power if we are going to win future fights, save critical services and disaster relief, and protect our clean energy future. But we need your help to do that, Pamela.
Thanks for being a part of this work,
