Pamela, the Florida Voting Rights Act Rally is happening this Wednesday, March 26 at the State Capitol in Tallahassee.
Pamela,
For far too long, Florida lawmakers have passed restrictive voting laws that make it harder not easier— for people to vote. From voter purges to limits on drop boxes and harsh penalties for community voter registration efforts, our democracy has been under constant attack.
But right now, we have a chance to fight back and expand voting rights across Florida.
The Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Florida Voting Rights Act (FLVRA) is a historic bill designed to protect voters from discrimination and ensure fair access to the ballot box.
Named after two civil rights icons who gave their lives fighting for voting rights, the FLVRA would help restore key protections from the federal Voting Rights Act that the Supreme Court has gutted.
Now, we need to make sure lawmakers hear us loud and clear. Join us alongside our allies at the Florida Voting Rights Rally on Wednesday, March 26th, at the Florida State Capitol >>
The Florida Voting Rights Act (FLVRA) is a game-changer for voting rights in Florida! It ensures that everyone has a fair and easy way to vote, no matter their race, language, or background. Here's what it does:
- Stops voter discrimination by preventing unfair rules that make it harder for certain groups to vote.
- Gives minority communities a fair shot by ensuring that they can elect leaders who truly represent them.
- Helps returning citizens vote by creating a simple system so people with past convictions can check if they're eligible.
- Expands language access as it will provide more support for voters who speak languages other than English.
- Restores preclearance protections which prevent unfair voting changes before they happen.
- Makes Election Day a holiday, so people can have more time to vote without work conflicts.
- Allows same-day voter registration
- Automatic voter registration
- Keeps Vote-by-Mail simple, so voters don't have to keep requesting ballots once signed up.
- Covers the cost of mailing ballots by having prepaid postage so voters can return ballots without extra costs.
This bill is about making voting fair, accessible, and convenient for everyone.
Without strong state-level protections, these attacks on voting rights will continue. The FLVRA would change that by reinstating critical voter protections and ensuring Florida's electoral process is free, fair, and accessible to all.
Florida voters deserve a system that is fair, free, and accessible to all. Let's make sure our voices are heard.
RSVP today and stand with us at the Florida Voting Rights Rally in Tallahassee on March 26th.
