Dear MoveOn member,
Election Day is less than a week away, and the safety of voters and poll workers is critical. Currently, 33 states allow guns in voting stations in some capacity.1 Thousands of MoveOn members have already taken action to demand Congress ban guns at the polls nationwide—but we need your help to keep up the momentum.
Let's be clear: This is a commonsense step our government can take NOW to put an end to this intimidating practice.
It's common for states to have restrictions for what is allowed at polling sites. If there are laws limiting apparel, buttons, and petitions, it is reasonable for our government to take steps to restrict guns and help keep all polling sites safe for all.
With Election Day just around the corner, and early voting starting in many states across the country, we need Congress to immediately act to ensure the safety of voters by making every polling station a gun-free zone now.
Will you sign the petition calling on Congress to act and protect voters nationwide?
Democracy means that everyone can vote freely and safely, and that's the cornerstone of the work we do at Common Cause. In the last year, we've taken bold action to protect voters and poll workers by pushing states to outlaw guns at the polls.
But in these final days before the November 5 election, as we continue to push for local progress, we need to ramp up our federal demands to pass a nationwide ban on guns at the polls.
Add your name to the petition if you agree polling sites should be gun-free zones.
Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,
No one should be intimidated when working or casting their ballot at the polls. Yet in 33 states, it is still legal in some capacity to have guns in polling places.1
That's why my organization, Common Cause, has been taking bold action to protect voters and poll workers by pushing states to outlaw guns at the polls. Just this year, we helped pass laws restricting guns at polling places in New Mexico and Massachusetts.2 And while these were two major victories, more can and must be done.
As voters gear up to head to the polls, it's time for Congress to take swift action and put an end to this intimidating practice by making EVERY polling place a gun-free zone once and for all.
No matter what you think about gun safety laws, banning guns at the polls is a commonsense step that Congress and every American who loves democracy should be able to agree on right now.
And with political tensions running high, it's more important than ever to ensure our polling places remain free from suppression and fear.
Add your name now to demand that Congress ban guns at polling locations.
It should be a no-brainer that allowing armed individuals at polling places sends a clear, chilling message of intimidation. Not just for voters, but for the dedicated public servants who work at the polls.
Make no mistake: Our democracy works best when we all feel safe and empowered to vote. With your help, we can make that a reality nationwide.
Thanks for all you do.
