Friend, thank you to everyone who donated last week to help children in Ukraine and around the world. Because of your support, we reached our Children’s Emergency Fund goal and are more prepared than ever to support children facing crises like conflict and disaster.
Thanks to generous supporters like you, we can continue supporting children like Sofia* who, at 16, has spent half her life surrounded by war. Despite the ongoing conflict, Sofia is hopeful about the future for herself, her peers and their country.
Up until last year, Sofia lived in eastern Ukraine, where conflict has raged since 2014. She participated in our School Safety Committees project, working with other students to improve school safety policies and our Advocacy training. She quickly put her training to work, speaking with the U.S. government to inform strategy on gender-based violence prevention and mental health counseling.
When the war escalated and her hometown became too dangerous, Sofia asked volunteers to help her and other children evacuate. Now, she’s internally displaced in western Ukraine where she’s received cash assistance to help her buy basic necessities. She’s continuing her studies and advocacy work and also helps Save the Children and our partners distribute humanitarian aid – such as hygiene items and household goods – to other displaced people.
Thanks to your support, Sophia and millions of other children around the world are getting the support they need to survive unimaginable hardships and become agents of change in their communities. Thank you so much for your partnership in this important work
