Friend, when the war in Ukraine escalated a year ago, all 7.5 million children there were in immediate danger. Over the next 100 days, more than two-thirds of them were forced to flee their homes. Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve been by children’s sides throughout this crisis and countless others.
As the war escalated, fourteen-year-old Samad* and his family risked freezing temperatures and congested roads and left most of their belongings behind to search for safety in Romania. Thanks to your support, Save the Children staff were there to greet them and provide essential supplies, useful guidance and psychosocial support.
You’ve also been there for children like 3-year-old Anastasia,* whose family fled their home in Chernihiv when fighting broke out. They returned months later to find it severely damaged by shrapnel. With your support, cash assistance was provided to help repair their roof and chimney and replace their front door and broken windows so they can stay warm and safe this winter.
And your support is consoling children like 7-year-old Mariia,* who was traumatized by darkness and the sound of shells as her family hid in a basement for days after the war escalated. Mariia can’t return to school yet because the building was bombed, but she attends one of our child-friendly spaces where children can play and receive mental health care.
We’re so grateful for everything supporters like you have helped us accomplish for children in crisis during this particularly challenging time. But as this conflict persists and countless other devastating hardships threaten children around the world, we need additional support to continue providing life-saving resources and care to kids and families.
