We announced our fundraising numbers earlier this month. So did Greg Abbott.
We OUTRAISED Greg Abbott — and set a new record for the most money raised in a single reporting period by a state-level candidate in Texas history. Take a look:
February 20 - June 30 | Amount Raised | Contributions |
Beto O'Rourke | $27.6 million | More Than 511,000 |
Greg Abbott | $24.9 million | Nearly 113,000 |
This unprecedented grassroots fundraising happened because of you and your fellow supporters. We raised this money from over half a million different contributions — more than quadruple the number of contributions to Abbott. And more than 98.9% came in online, to emails just like this one.
Our grassroots donors have finally outpaced Abbott's corporate mega-donors — right as new polls show the incumbent's lead shrinking to just 5 points (a 10-point drop!) and a growing majority of Texans say they disapprove of the direction Texas is heading in under his failed leadership.
More than ever, it is clear that we have the momentum to defeat Greg Abbott. But his fundraising is right on our tail, and his campaign has a war chest of money. We know for a fact that he plans to spend over $100 million against Beto before Election Day.
It's absolutely critical that we don't slow down. We can't afford to.
It's so important to us that you know how we're using the money that supporters like you have generously contributed to our campaign.
First and foremost, these resources go toward the powerful work of our organizers and more than 79,000 volunteers — a historic number of folks giving their time and energy to a campaign to make long-overdue change in Texas.
In June alone, we knocked more than 105,500 doors and made more than one million calls to Texans. These numbers will only increase as we move closer to Election Day.
Alongside our organizers and volunteers, Beto is in the midst of a 49-day, more than 5,600 mile Drive for Texas to visit over 70 communities across the state.
We're ensuring that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike understand what we're working toward: creating great jobs, investing in world-class schools, expanding health care so more people can see a doctor and lowering costs so families can afford to live in this state. We're ensuring people know that our vision couldn't be farther from Abbott's dangerous and extreme positions on abortion and gun safety.
At the end of the day, one thing is clear as we close the gap in the polls and expand our organizing across Texas: There are more of us than Abbott's special interest mega-donors.
Thanks for all you do,
Team Beto
