A grand jury in Colorado has just indicted a Republican local elections official on a laundry list of felony charges related to election fraud following the 2020 election.1
Prosecutors allege the official, Tina Peters, tampered with voting machines and leaked sensitive election information to right-wing conspiracy theorists in order to fuel Donald Trump's effort to overturn the results of the election.2
It gets worse: Peters is now running for Colorado secretary of state—the office that oversees elections, counts the votes, and declares winners and losers of elections.
Thankfully, given her indictment, it seems unlikely that Peters will continue as a candidate. But around the country, far-right white supremacists are running for important offices that oversee elections—including with Trump's official endorsement.
Their goal is simple: secure the power to throw out votes, refuse to certify election results, and finish what Trump started in 2020 by installing him to another term—no matter the results of the vote.
Which is why MoveOn is doing something we've never done in our 23-year history: We're launching a powerful, multimillion-dollar effort to defeat Trump-backed secretaries of state across the country and elect individuals who will count every vote and ensure fair elections.

Trump has laid bare his plan to replace the top election officials in battleground states with his own loyalists.
At a rally in January, he stated outright, "There's a famous statement: 'Sometimes the vote counter is more important than the candidate.'"3
Before this election cycle, Trump had never endorsed a candidate for secretary of state. Now, he's funding a massive effort to install his lackeys into key elections posts.
A recent Washington Post analysis found that at least 163 Republicans who have embraced Trump's Big Lie of a stolen election are running for statewide positions that would give them authority over the administration of elections, from governor to secretary of state.4
Andra, we cannot allow Trump loyalists to oversee our elections.
