Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate to act fast and confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.
Dear MoveOn member,
Republicans want a Supreme Court that will overturn abortion rights and end protections for same-sex couples and families. They even question whether the Supreme Court should have guaranteed the legality of interracial marriage more than 50 years ago. That's the vision the GOP has put on display.1,2
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is an extremely accomplished, experienced, and qualified judge who is ready to serve on the highest court in the land and become the first Black woman ever to become a Supreme Court Justice.3 She sat through 12-hour days of questioning in which she showcased her expert understanding of the Constitution, her nuanced methodology as a judge, and her unparalleled patience.
We saw what Republicans are out to do—slander, smear, and discredit her with a mixture of QAnon disinformation, baseless attacks, and right-wing talking points to undermine such fundamental rights as the freedom to marry regardless of race or sexual orientation.
We've seen and heard enough to know her qualifications and to see how Republicans hope to undermine these hearings. Please sign now to add your name calling for a swift and timely confirmation of Judge Jackson as soon as this week's hearings are concluded.
Judge Jackson has deep experience across the justice system, which will make her a well-rounded justice. She worked as a public defender, served on the bipartisan U.S. Sentencing Commission, and served as a judge on the U.S. District Court and on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. She's the first nominee since Thurgood Marshall to have experience as a defense attorney.
It's long past time to have a Black woman serve on the Supreme Court, and now that President Biden has fulfilled his promise to nominate one, it's up to us to advocate for a swift and effective nomination process. And we must all commit to having her back against the racism and criticism that Republicans are aiming at her.
We know Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing to steal another Supreme Court seat and that Republicans will use any trick to block her confirmation—including attacking her with outrageous lies. All Democrats and any remaining moderate Republicans have a responsibility to reject these attacks and confirm Judge Jackson, based on her exemplary qualifications and the aptitude she is showing at the hearings this week.
Republicans weren't shy about revealing their real agenda: stacking the court with judges who will overturn the freedom to marry and to choose when and whether to have a baby, and using a nationally televised platform to attack LGBTQ+ youth and families and efforts to give our kids an honest education. One Republican senator even questioned the Supreme Court ruling that guaranteed interracial marriages would be legal and respected across the country.4 We need a Supreme Court that will protect our freedoms against right-wing zealots and corporate power—and while Judge Jackson alone can't unrig the Supreme Court, which has been packed by Trump appointees, her confirmation will be an important step in the right direction.
Republicans will lie, muddy and block the process, and try to derail her nomination—and that's why we need to make sure ALL senators hear us loud and clear: Confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson swiftly as soon as this week's hearings conclude.
Thanks for all you do.
