Tell the Senate: "The filibuster is a relic of the Jim Crow era, is not in the Constitution, and undermines economic recovery and efforts to expand voting rights. It's time to eliminate the filibuster!" | Joe Biden hasn't even been president for a week, and Republican Senators already are working hard to undermine his ability to deliver for the American people. Sen. Mitch McConnell is desperate to preserve the legislative filibuster and has blocked the Senate from getting to work. McConnell only cares about three things: making the rich richer, stacking the judiciary, and preventing yet another Democratic administration from succeeding. The American people can wait no longer. But some conservative Senate Democrats, including Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, are vowing to keep the filibuster in place even though it means giving McConnell the power to stop everything.1 This is totally unacceptable. Sign the petition and tell the Senate: End the filibuster and stop Mitch McConnell from undermining Biden's presidency! The filibuster isn't about the rules of debate -- it's really about blocking progress. The filibuster is rooted in slavery, grew up as the protector of Jim Crow laws, and is now used to stymie a progressive agenda.2 Remember, the filibuster doesn't apply to Republican tax cuts or installing federal judges. But, under current Senate rules it can apply to healthcare, consumer protection, civil rights, and voting rights. McConnell wants to keep the filibuster in order to do things like block HR 1, the landmark expansion of voting rights that passed the House in 2019 but died in the Senate. He will use it to block the federal response to COVID. He will prevent economic relief to help millions of suffering Americans. We cannot afford to wait any longer. We cannot let Senate Democrats allow McConnell to undermine progress. Justice delayed is justice denied. Add your name: Tell the Senate to end the filibuster NOW!
