Tell Congress: We don't need fences, we need to understand the ties between white supremacists, law enforcement, and members of Congress. Tell Congress to support the COUP Act. | Pamela, Yesterday, the U.S. Capitol Police chief announced new "enhanced security features" after the Jan 6 insurrection including permanent fencing around the Capitol. Fences won't help with security if the threats are inside the Congress or some of the Capitol police officers will just open up the fences for rioters. We don't need security theater in the People's House. We need real solutions, like putting together a 9/11-style investigation into commission to investigate and intercept police misconduct and incompetence on Capitol Hill. Tell Congress we need a detailed investigation and course of action to redeem trust and restore security, and a commission to investigate the attack and ties between white supremacists and Capitol Police. Add your name. The residents of DC feared this would happen. DC residents watched the white supremacists invade their city over and over again this year, tearing down Black Lives Matter signs, attacking Black residents. DC residents also saw their city become more militarized after 9/11, and it's happening all over again. With more militarization, the Black and brown residents are less safe in their communities and an important green space of the people's house are behind a fence. This is not the way to make the people's house, members of Congress, or the residents of DC any safer. Demand that Congress pass the COUP Act, and investigate the attack on the Capitol and the ties to white supremacists. Let's not put solutions before we fully understand how far and deep our problems go. In solidarity, Mike Phelan Progress America |
