Friends -
In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to our campaign before tonight's debate. I hope you'll give me a chance to explain why this request — especially today — is so important.
The truth is, it wasn't very long ago that the issues we've led on throughout the years were considered radical:
Medicare for all? "Too extreme," they said. A $15 minimum wage? "That's crazy," we heard. Free college tuition? "A fringe idea," people suggested.
Today, these are mainstream positions. You heard a number of candidates embrace them last night, and I expect the same will happen later this evening.
But what differentiates our campaign from all the others is not only that we have led on these issues for a long time, but that we are offering transformational change and giving people a role in making it happen.
Because that is the only way change will happen – if we have the courage to build a grassroots movement to take on our rigged economy held in place by a corrupt system of campaign finance.
That is the political revolution. Because I cannot do this alone, Sisters and brothers. And that is why I have to ask:
Together, we must finally confront the power structure of this country whose greed has done so much harm to the economic and moral fabric of America. I'm excited to talk more about that tonight, and am thankful to know that you're with me as I head to the debate.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
