Since the 2010 Citizens United ruling, the rich and powerful have spent unlimited sums of money to influence our elections. That's why our campaign is not taking a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists: because I never want there to be any question about who I'm listening to. The answer will always be the people.
I'm talking about families struggling to make ends meet; students buckling under crushing debt; patients with pre-existing conditions worrying about their protections; and more. Those are the voices I'm answering to in this election -- not the corporate PACs and lobbyists trying to buy influence in Washington.
The truth is, we don't have to accept a system that drowns out the voices of the American people. We can do better.
That's why I am not going to spend a minute of this campaign asking federal lobbyists and corporations for donations. But that means every small-dollar, individual contribution matters. And with just one day left until we close the books for February, my team is telling me that we are a bit short on our goals for the month. So I'm asking:
Can I count on you to make a contribution to catch us back up to our February goal? We're rejecting support from corporate PACs and relying on grassroots donors to power this movement -- which means your donation will make a huge difference for me and my team:
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Believe me when I say this: the wealthy few who abuse our campaign finance system would love nothing more than for us to fall short this month. Why? Because I refuse to play their game. I want to win this election the right way -- and with your support, I know we can.
Each time I send you a message just like this asking for help, you answer the call and exceed all expectations. So I'm turning to you again:
Add a contribution to help us get back on track for February. Let's send a powerful message to the lobbyists and corporate PACs that we can win without them.
Together, we are going to prove a campaign can be won the right way in 2020 and beyond. That's my promise to you.
Thank you, as always, for everything you do.
— Kamala Harris
