Survivors of One of America's Worst War Crimes Since Vietnam Speak
Once in a while, though too often for comfort, there are events that remind us why we do the work we do. One of those came on February 28, 2026, when the U.S. launched its joint war with Israel against Iran with an attack on a school building in Minab while hundreds of children were beginning their day. My colleagues Jeremy Scahill and Murtaza Hussain and journalist Reza Sayah spent the last two months exploring the depths of that atrocity, speaking to survivors, parents, first responders, government officials, and medical personnel who had the inconceivable task of treating the wounded while grieving their own children killed in the attack—or uncertain of their fate. In the U.S., after a school shooting, news outlets excel at painting portraits of those whose lives were horrifically cut short. When it comes to the children murdered in Minab, there has been no such dignity afforded to them. We hope in some small way to offer some. Jeremy’s article is a hard read, but an important one, and you’ll be glad you took the time with it. Read it here. And please share it with anyone in your life who needs the reminder of what we are capable of. We also produced a video that gives a visceral sense of the sheer depravity of the attack, and the way that it has fundamentally changed a community forever. Watch it on YouTube or Substack, below. Thank you for reading, for watching, and for being part of a community of readers unafraid of the truth.
