We’re asking you to contact your U.S. House member and tell them to oppose the so-called SAVE Act.

Washington needs to hear from you.

Pamela,

We're about to see how far some politicians are willing to go to cling to power. Even at the expense of our democracy.

Extreme members of the U.S. House of Representatives are trying to pass the so-called "SAVE" Act, which should be called the Stop Americans from Voting Everywhere Act — voter suppression thinly disguised as election protection.

The bill could block millions of Americans from casting their ballots by:

  • Requiring proof of citizenship like passports or birth certificates to register to vote and update voter registration information — documentation millions of people don't have readily available.
  • Effectively eliminating online or mail-in voter registration.
  • Forcing states to remove voters from the rolls, with no notice, likely leading to wrongful purges.

By mandating Americans purchase government documents to register to vote, the SAVE Act is a new poll tax. Eligible forms of identification could cost anywhere from $35 to $165. For many folks, that's the difference between putting food on the table and keeping the lights on.

We have to act now to fight back against this unjust legislation. This bill could come for a vote this week.

And the best way to stop this anti-voting bill is to make our voices heard.

Please contact your member of the House of Representatives and insist that they vote NO on the SAVE Act, also known as H.R. 22. Click here for a quick script you can use and the number to call.

The SAVE Act would disproportionately attempt to silence:

  • Low-income people who can't easily obtain costly government documents.
  • Rural voters who may live far from offices where they can get those forms of IDs.
  • Young Americans who rely on online, mail-in, and third-party voter registration drives.
  • And married women who have their former names on their birth certificates and couldn't use them as verification.

It could block millions of people from voting, all in an attempt to hold onto power.

This bill is another part of some lawmakers' Politician Protection Agenda — where they keep themselves in office by trying to keep people out of the voting booth. That way, politicians can continue listening to billionaires and corporations without having to worry about people who are demanding better jobs, affordable housing and healthcare, and lower costs.

Without the freedom to vote, we don't have the power to hold our leaders accountable. So we're fighting back.

Voting is a right, not a luxury, and we have to stop this new poll tax before it can become a national law. Call the office of your U.S. House Representative and tell them to oppose the SAVE Act, also known as H.R. 22. The conversation can be as quick as you'd like. And we'll give you a script you can use or adapt.

CALL NOW

Thank you for speaking out. It's critically important right now. And the fight won't be over even if the House does pass this national poll tax — we will continue working to keep it from getting through the Senate.

In solidarity,

The Fair Fight Action Team
