We are seeing a coordinated attack on ballot initiatives in the state of Florida. In order to protect and preserve this vital tool for citizens, we must stop these bills before they move any further.
SB 7016 would require any group that wants to propose an amendment to face extreme petition collection rules, and beat extremely short deadlines for submitting signatures, all while facing significantly increased fines for even small violations. HB 1205 would impose excessive fines for small violations in the process, and drastically cut petition deadlines – blocking grassroots efforts before they even begin. These changes aren't about election security; they are about limiting public participation and keeping power out of the hands of the people.
Florida has a long history of citizen-led ballot initiatives driving real change, and these bills would make it nearly impossible for everyday Floridians to have a voice in shaping our state's future. We must act now to protect our right to direct democracy.
We still have time to stop this. Every voice counts, and lawmakers need to hear from us now. Tell your state senators to vote NO on HB 1205 and SB 7016 and protect Florida's right to direct democracy. Take action below!
