Pamela,
We've been on the ground in Tallahassee, and I want to personally update you on what Common Cause Florida is fighting for this legislative session.
Right now, our democracy is under attack, but we're not backing down. Here's what we're working on.
Stopping Bad Bills
-
Defending Citizen-Led Amendments: HB 1205 and SB 7016 are a legislative power-grab that would make it almost impossible for everyday Floridians to put citizen-led amendments on the ballot so that we can directly pass policies that improve our lives and strengthen our communities.
-
Fighting Voter Suppression: HB 1381 would force Floridians to show passport-level proof of citizenship to register to vote, even if they've been voting for years. It's part of a national push to rig the rules and silence voters—especially students, seniors, naturalized citizens, and working families.
Advocating for Good Bills
-
The Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Florida Voting Rights Act: SB 1582 and HB 1409 represent groundbreaking legislation to restore and expand voting protections across our state—especially for communities targeted by voter suppression.
-
Support for Disaster-Affected Voters: SB 1486 and HB 1317 would ensure that every voter impacted by a disaster has the same support and opportunities to cast their ballot—no matter what affected county they live in. It also ensures election offices have the resources and flexibility needed to help voters in emergencies.
But here's the truth: Democracy doesn't defend itself. And in Florida, the threats are real.
Just a couple weeks ago, we stood on the steps of the Capitol in Tallahassee, demanding action on the Florida Voting Rights Act. We've mobilized voters across the state and sounded the alarm when politicians tried to silence our communities.
But every step of progress has been met with resistance from those who'd rather Floridians be shut out than heard. That's why we need you with us.
If you believe in a Florida where elections are fair, every vote is counted, and everyday people—not political insiders or wealthy donors—hold the power, we're asking you to stand with us.
Your support keeps this movement going—on the ground, in the Capitol, and across the state. Chip in to protect Florida's democracy >>
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for Florida's democracy,
