Pamela,
Florida lawmakers are on the brink of silencing our voices.
HB 1205 is being heard on the floor of the Florida House THIS THURSDAY. This is a direct attack on the citizen-led amendment process—one of the few tools left that lets everyday people bypass the political establishment and pass the policies we need.
Will you call your state representative right now and urge them to vote NO on HB 1205?
The citizen-led amendment process has allowed Floridians to
- Raise the minimum wage.
Restore voting rights to returning citizens.
Protect our water and natural resources.
Ensure government transparency.
These victories didn't come from politicians. They came from you, from neighbors collecting signatures, from communities organizing to make our state more fair, more just, and more free.
But now, politicians who don't like that kind of advocacy in the hands of the people are trying to take it away.
HB 1205 and its companion bill SPB 7016 would:
Give only 10 days to submit petition signatures—an unworkable deadline designed to stop grassroots campaigns.
Threaten volunteers with felonies and expensive fines just for engaging in democracy.
Force Floridians to put private personal information at risk just to sign a petition on an issue they believe in.
That's not accountability.
Let's be clear: The citizen-led amendment process in Florida is already the most restrictive in the nation. Nearly one million verified signatures are needed to get on the ballot. 60% of the vote is required for an amendment to pass. And yet—when we've used it, we've won.
That is exactly why they're trying to shut it down.
Pamela, we need you in this fight. Your representative needs to hear from you today. Tell them: Floridians have the right to shape our own future—and we will not be silenced.
Together, we can stop this power grab—and protect our freedom to vote on the issues that matter.
Thank you for standing up for our rights.
