Did you vote for Elon Musk?
No one did. So it's outrageous that Trump has given Musk, an unelected, unvetted, unconfirmed billionaire, an unprecedented and unconstitutional amount of power.
He's using it to gut the federal government as we know it. This week, that means sending USAID, the U.S. government's lead distributor of lifesaving humanitarian aid and development assistance across the globe, "into the woodchipper" (Musk's words).
Millions of lives are at immediate risk. One USAID worker estimated that, as a result of Musk's handiwork, "At a minimum, 300 babies that wouldn't have had HIV, now do."
The kicker? Musk is working to "reduce spending" while making money hand over fist from the same Pentagon contracts that pay his own companies billions each year. Musk's net worth has increased by $65 BILLION since Election Day — growth that's based on an assumption he will keep those government dollars coming, and in many cases with less regulation, moving forward.
It's corruption, plain and simple, and we refuse to sit idly by and allow it to continue. The Pentagon is accountable to Congress and the public: That's US. It's why we're sending lawmakers a message tens of thousands of people strong, urging them to block Elon from gaining another cent of taxpayer money as fast as they can NOW.
Tell Congress: Taxpayer dollars shouldn't pay for Elon Musk's anti-democratic power grab. Cut the funding streams now.
From private "businessmen" like notorious Blackwater founder Erik Prince to public officials like former Senator Menendez, Win Without War has never been afraid of making enemies in high places.
We've continually worked to shine a light on corrupt and unethical behavior and also to use every tool at our disposal to demand accountability and justice once those misdeeds are uncovered.
The latest reports estimate this year's Pentagon budget will top one TRILLION dollars. It'll mean a banner year for the contractors who get roughly half of the entire pot each year — and it's meant tens of BILLIONS for companies owned by Elon Musk.
The trillions we've spent on weapons and war over the past 20 years weren't funding a cure for cancer, combatting the climate crisis, or solving homelessness. Foreign aid is an investment in a more peaceful future. Global health and development programs prevent and address pandemics, poverty, illiteracy, and more that help our communities here at home too. But the horrible truth is that we've kept them underfunded for years.
Instead of building a world where people worldwide feel safer, our government has prioritized a few people like Elon Musk unconscionably rich by building and buying more bombs and surveillance systems that exacerbate instability and insecurity.
Right now, one of those war profiteers is also working 24/7 to tear our democracy apart.
With BILLIONS more to be made, we know Musk will fight tooth and nail to keep his profits flowing. That's why, we've got to get to work.
Over the past few days, our champions in Congress have taken action on the floor of the U.S. Capitol, at protests, and in the press. Sign now to steel their resolve to keep going — and send our opponents a loud and clear message that we refuse to allow Trump and Musk to trample over our rights, diminish our resolve, or take our money.
This is a five-alarm fire ― and as litigation makes its way through the courts to keep federal workers employed and block USAID from being shut down, our job is to keep up the pressure on lawmakers to hold this White House and any bad actors accountable.
Take a moment to pause and imagine what the world would look like if our government stopped plowing billions toward weapons and war contractors and instead prioritized people's needs, addressed the climate crisis, and built true security.
Those dreams can become a reality if we work together today and always. Let's keep pushing.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
