Dear fellow MoveOn member,

When I see injustice in my community, I take action. I'm writing to you today to invite you to do the same. Will you start a petition right now about an issue you care about?

In February, my home state of Texas faced a major—and ultimately avoidable—power crisis. Millions were without power for days on end when winter storms brought frigid temperatures, snow, and ice storms. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas's poor planning and failures were directly responsible. Combined with a history of aggressive deregulation in Texas and an electric grid intentionally separated from the huge grids servicing the rest of the continental U.S., millions of Texans were left vulnerable, especially those who were already marginalized and were inevitably left at even greater risk without heat and safe drinking water.1

That's why I started a petition calling for Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas state legislature to investigate ERCOT. After thousands of Texas MoveOn members signed my petition, the environment subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform launched an investigation into ERCOT's mishandling of the energy grid.2

Andra, will you take action by starting a MoveOn petition on an issue that you care about?

We don't need to sit idly by. Words can't describe how powerful we can be when we choose to speak out and join with others who feel the same. I recall how helpless I felt for myself, my loved ones, and my state when I saw all of us go dark in the worst winter weather our state had seen in a century. But I channeled that energy and rage into action, and we organized thousands of people in our state.

You can start a petition to advocate for action on climate change, racial justice, health care, LGBTQ+ rights, or another issue where you feel called to speak up and speak out. Or start a petition to organize your community to make a positive, local change.

By starting a MoveOn petition, you can shine a spotlight on a problem, make it part of a state or national conversation, and help bring about a solution.

You have the power to make a difference. Will you start a petition today and advocate for an issue that matters to you?

Thank you!
