In the interests of democracy, we demand that you enact the necessary legislation to shorten the lame duck period for Congress and the President." | Why is Donald Trump still the President? It's been more than 6 weeks since Joe Biden won the election, and a full week since the Electoral College (which we should abolish) finally met. Every state's election has been certified. But Donald Trump is still in the White House, and his appointees are ramming through dangerous "midnight regulations." They're trying to damage Social Security,1 drill in arctic wildlife reserves,2 and botching the coronavirus vaccine rollout.3 Republican state legislatures have routinely used post-election sessions after their losses to handicap the incoming Democratic administrations. It was pioneered in North Carolina, then repeated in Wisconsin.4 Post-election legislative sessions―AKA lame duck sessions―are anti-democratic and dangerous.
