Hi, it's Rebecca, campaign manager for Team AOC.
I'm writing to ask you to make your first contribution to Alexandria's campaign before our end-of-year FEC deadline. But first I hope you'll let me explain why chipping in before Thursday's deadline in particular is so important.
Just 55 days ago, Alexandria was re-elected with 71.6% of the vote. That outcome was never a foregone conclusion.
We faced an endless onslaught of negative coverage from outlets like Fox News and Breitbart. Our opponent in the primary was funded by Wall Street giants, including the CEOs of Goldman Sachs and Blackstone. The Republican who ran against us in the general raised a historic amount of money from GOP donors across the nation. Overall, we had to fend off more than $15 million in attacks.
In the end, small-dollar donations from people like you helped us run the strongest possible campaign in NY-14 and re-elect Alexandria.
At midnight on Thursday, we are closing the books for the final quarter of 2020. Then, we'll send a report to the FEC. The strength of our fundraising on this public report is crucial for a number of reasons.
- Potential opponents will watch closely: They want to see how much money we have in the bank to fight a primary or general election challenge. And with the potential that New York could lose a congressional district, New York needs to be really prepared for this fight.
- The national media is paying attention: AOC's fundraising has become a bellwether for the strength of our movement. If we report a lot of donations, it demonstrates that a lot of grassroots energy is behind our ideas.
- These donations help us grow: Donations help us grow the reach of our campaign. We can use these funds to train more volunteers at home and in competitive races across the country - and expand our homeworker helpers program and create other constituent service programs.
The bottom line is that the numbers we report through the December 31 deadline are really important. And that's why I am writing and asking for your help now.
I am so thankful to each and every one of you for your support. Whether you chipped in this past year, spent some time volunteering, or voiced your support in other ways, it all added up. We won our first re-election by a wide majority.
Now we need to close out the year's fundraising with a surge so that we can grow this movement in 2021 and beyond. Please, if you can afford it, donate before Thursday's deadline.
