Soon, millions of Americans will start seeing $600 deposits and checks from the stimulus. It's not enough but, incredibly, in the beginning of negotiations, direct payments weren't even on the table.
But Alexandria and dozens of colleagues drew a hard line and fought for working people. They would not vote for a bill that did not include survival checks, and were ready to go even further.
So when President Trump finally woke up and got involved in stimulus negotiations, Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria already had the amendment to increase checks from $600 to $2,000 ready to go.
