| Tell Congress: "Say NO! to austerity and don't pass PAYGO rules in the House!" | Pamela, It's a tale as old as time, a song as old as rhyme: Republicans spend Republcian presidencies defunding as much of the government as possible, while Republicans spend Democratic presidencies demanding cuts to vital programs due to the funding crisis they created. Absolutely nothing that Donald Trump did in the past 4 years was "paid for." Yet Democrats are insisting on restoring "paygo" rules in the House that would hamstring our response to the ongoing crises. We can't keep going through life with one set of rules for Democratic administrations and different ones for Republicans. House Democrats shouldn't try to enforce theirs! Tell House Democrats not to impose austerity on America by passing "paygo" rules! During the Obama era, Democrats took seriously Republican complaints about deficits, and studiously offset every new government expense with either a fee increase in another area or by cutting programs. This essentially freezes the government in place, and forces unpopular cuts to be attached to popular programs. Paygo rules create a zero sum game where government programs must compete for funding, and operates from a false belief that the government should spend less money. It's a huge mistake, and one that only feeds Republican bad faith. Tell House Democrats: No self inflicted wounds to start off the Biden-Harris administration! Say 'no' to Paygo!
