Dear MoveOn member,
Over the weekend, Democrats in the Senate passed a historic piece of legislation that includes the largest commitment to address the climate crisis in any bill ever passed by Congress.1 The new law will cut U.S. climate pollution by 40% by 2030, lower prescription drug costs, and close tax loopholes exploited by the ultra-wealthy to avoid paying their fair share.2
And every single Republican in the Senate voted against it.
They voted against legislation that will save families on average $1,025 a year in energy costs. They voted against creating millions of jobs. They voted against protecting patients against the unchecked greed of Big Pharma.3
And although they failed in stopping the bill from passing, they did succeed in removing a provision that would have capped insulin costs at $35 a month to stop the epidemic of patients risking their lives by skipping doses or rationing due to the exorbitant price of a drug that costs manufacturers less than $4 to produce.4,5
We need to spread the word about this historic legislation and the cruel attempts by Republicans to block it. Which is why MoveOn is announcing a six-figure television ad buy across three key states with close Senate races, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, to remind voters what we can accomplish with Democrats in charge, and why it is so critical that they get out and vote to defeat the MAGA extremists running for Senate in their states.
Andra, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia are three of the most crucial states that Democrats must win in order to hold the Senate this fall. MoveOn members have already endorsed all three incumbent Democratic senators in these races: Mark Kelly in Arizona, Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada, and Raphael Warnock in Georgia—but you need to know whom they're up against.
In Arizona, Sen. Kelly will face Blake Masters, a candidate even more extreme than Donald Trump himself. Masters's campaign is being funded by right-wing billionaire Peter Thiel, giving him an enormous advantage when it comes to running ads and spreading his disinformation. Masters has blamed the epidemic of gun violence on Black people, has called for a federal abortion ban, supports bills to deny service to LGBTQ+ Americans, and believes Kyle Rittenhouse, who crossed state lines and shot and killed two people at a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020, is a hero.6,7
In Nevada, Sen. Cortez Masto's opponent is Adam Laxalt, an election denier who not only chaired Trump's 2020 campaign in Nevada but continues to this day to promote Trump's Big Lie of a stolen election.8 Experts predict that Nevada will be one of the closest Senate races this year.
And in Georgia, Sen. Warnock is facing Herschel Walker, a candidate whose own staff calls a "pathological liar."9 Trump-endorsed Walker not only supports a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest or even to save the life of the pregnant person, but he has also been credibly accused of domestic violence, lied to his own campaign about having three secret children, and falsely claims to have been trained by the FBI.10,11
The dangerous extremism of these three candidates, combined with polling that shows each has a real shot at winning and taking a seat in the Senate, is what led MoveOn to decide to invest in ads across these three states.
The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act by the Senate is a massive accomplishment, and we cannot lose sight of our ability to create a better, brighter future for our nation when we elect leaders who will fight for us, not special interests and the whims of Donald Trump.
By reelecting Sens. Kelly, Cortez Masto, and Warnock, we are keeping America on a path toward progress and striking another blow to the extremist MAGA movement that wishes to drag our nation back to a time defined by racism, inequality, and division.
Thanks for all you do.

Donald Trump and his allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort.
