Yesterday's shocking January 6 committee hearing focused on what Donald Trump was—and wasn't!—doing inside the White House in the excruciating hours that his crowd of armed white supremacists attacked the Capitol to overthrow America's voters.

 

This was a critical moment in Trump's assault on our country. But it is only one piece of the story. Because the MAGA criminal conspiracy is way bigger than Trump, and it's still happening.

At least 120 election-denying Trump Republicans will be on ballots across the country this November as official GOP nominees.¹ They're intentionally running for positions that pull key levers in fair elections: secretaries of state and governors, who administer our right to vote and certify the results. They want their next coup attempt to be carried out by elected saboteurs in statehouses and governors' mansions, accomplishing what Trump's armed insurrectionists and congressional allies failed to do at the Capitol on January 6.

We can stop them—but it will take all of us, working together, to meaningfully reach voters who will make the difference in this election.

A recent January 6 hearing featured striking testimony from a former member of the Oath Keepers, a white supremacist militia that was part of the organized violence of January 6.² But another self-proclaimed member of the Oath Keepers, Mark Finchem, is running to be the head election official in Arizona. Finchem is an election denier, he was on the Trump campaign's payroll for its efforts to overturn Arizona's certified election outcome, and he wants to implement racist voting changes in the state to make it harder for people to use their right to vote.³ MoveOn has endorsed a progressive champion for Arizona secretary of state who can defeat Finchem, Reginald Bolding. But we need to make sure Bolding wins the Democratic primary and that people are fired up to turn out and vote him into office in November.

And it's not just Arizona. There are races with a similar setup shaping up across the country that need our help. From Nevada to Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, we have endorsed a slate of pro-democracy candidates whom MoveOn members trust to safeguard free and fair elections—and whom we're committed to getting into office.
