Trump-backed QAnon candidates launch group to "control the election system"

A group of Trump-backed QAnon candidates in key battleground states have launched a new effort to "control the election system."

Dear MoveOn member,

A group of Trump-backed QAnon candidates in key battleground states have launched a new effort to "control the election system."1

The candidates, all of whom promote Trump's Big Lie of a stolen election, are running for secretary of state—the office that counts the votes and certifies election results—including in Arizona and Georgia, critical states that likely will determine the winner of the 2024 presidential election.

The new group was announced at a QAnon conference and is reportedly being bankrolled by Mike Lindell, who's a close Trump confidant and former CEO of My Pillow, and multimillionaire Patrick Byrne, who pushed Trump to declare martial law in his last days in office in order to stay in power.2

Their goal is simple: to elect far-right QAnon candidates to offices overseeing elections so that they can help execute Trump's plot to rig the elections in 2024 and install him in the White House for a second term.

That's why MoveOn is doing something we've never done in our 23-year history: We're launching a multimillion-dollar effort to defeat Trump-backed QAnon candidates for secretary of state across the country and defend our free and fair elections.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help stop the Trump-backed conspiracy theorists from taking over our elections?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Andra, Trump's plot to take over our elections is unfolding in plain sight.

At a rally earlier this year in Arizona, Trump said, "sometimes the vote counter is more important than the candidate."3

And at a QAnon conference, Jim Marchant, one of the candidates, publicly bragged that he and others were directly recruited to run by QAnon and that the QAnon candidates are coordinating "between the different states to get to the right outcome" in the 2024 presidential election.4

It would be utterly ruinous for our democracy if QAnon conspiracy theorists were elected into positions where they had the power to determine the results of elections.

Especially after January 6, we cannot underestimate the threat posed by radical right-wing extremists. That's precisely why MoveOn is going big in secretary of state races across the country to defeat these pro-Trump conspiracy theory candidates. Will you donate $5 a month to power this crucial work?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Let us tell you a little bit about just two of the candidates who Trump and QAnon are working overtime to elect.

In Arizona, Trump has endorsed an extremist named Mark Finchem, a Republican state lawmaker who attended the January 6 insurrection, continues to work to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Arizona, and is linked to the Oath Keepers, the white supremacist extremist group whose leaders were charged earlier this month with "seditious conspiracy" related to their involvement in the insurrection.5

And in Georgia, Trump has endorsed Jody Hice, a member of Congress who attempted to stop the certification of Georgia's election in 2020 and has supported the blatantly racist voter suppression laws being passed in the state.6

Our democracy is on a knife's edge, and secretaries of state who will count every vote and ensure free and fair elections may be the only thing standing between democracy and authoritarianism.

That's why—for the first time in our 23-year history—MoveOn is dedicating millions of dollars to help elect secretaries of state who will put our democracy first and stand up to QAnon.

Please, if you are able, will you chip in $5 a month—or whatever you can—to take down the QAnon plot to put Trump loyalists in charge of overseeing elections?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump and his allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort.

Will you chip in monthly to power our campaign to defeat Trump and the GOP in 2022?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
