| Tell President Biden and Congress: The climate crisis is here and the infrastructure deal is an opportunity to help address it that we cannot pass up. The infrastructure deal must include bold climate action, and must not pass without it. No climate, no deal! | According to a shocking new report, seven of the Senators who negotiated an infrastructure deal are considered "crucial" allies by ExxonMobil -- and that they deliberately left climate action out of that deal at the oil company's request. Their lobbyist names Joe Manchin as their "kingmaker" and brags that they lobbied Congress to exclude from the infrastructure deal anything that would reduce carbon emissions, which they called "the negative stuff." As our country witnesses numerous examples of the climate crisis this week, we cannot allow the Exxon Seven to help oil companies block the investments we need to avert catastrophe and build a sustainable future. Progressive Democrats are pushing a separate infrastructure bill that would tackle the climate crisis, and they need your help. Sign the petition: Stop ExxonMobil! No infrastructure deal without bold climate action and green infrastructure! Let me give you an insider's view on where things stand right now in Congress: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Bernie Sanders are pushing a $6 trillion plan that Democrats would pass all by themselves, using the reconciliation process that requires only 50 votes and the Vice President's vote to pass. This would include the badly needed climate projects. To make sure that larger, green package passes, progressives such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pramila Jayapal, and AOC have all responded by saying "no climate, no deal" -- pledging to oppose a deal if it doesn't include green infrastructure. Nancy Pelosi agrees with them. But Mitch McConnell is trying to blow up that plan. And based on today's news, oil companies will probably try and lean on their "crucial" allies to do the same. The breaking news that oil companies and their allies in the Senate are using the infrastructure deal to try and stop climate action should spur all of us to immediate action. Will you send a message to the President and Congress right now? Tell Biden and Congress: Don't listen to the oil companies. No infrastructure deal without going big on climate action! Thanks, Demand Progress |
