In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a donation to our campaign — possibly the 1 millionth donation to our campaign. I hope you'll give me a chance to explain why this request, and that milestone, is so important.
Here is the truth: the economic and political systems of this country are stacked against ordinary Americans. The rich get richer and use their wealth to buy elections. Working families get poorer and feel as if they are powerless to fight back.
But what we are doing on this campaign — in a way that will change American politics forever — is proving that when people of all backgrounds come together and fight for a government that represents all of us, we are more powerful than anyone would have imagined.
That is why reaching 1 million volunteers in our first week was so important. That is why our organizing events on April 27 are so important. And that is why reaching this goal of 1 million individual donations so fast is so important. But I cannot do any of this alone, and that is why I have to ask:
We are taking on very powerful interests in this campaign: Wall Street, the drug companies and insurance companies, the military and prison industrial complex, and the fossil fuel companies just to name a few.
But if we stand together, people of all backgrounds and from all communities, we are not only going to win this election, we are going to transform this country.
