I am writing to ask if you will make a contribution to our campaign, but I also want to explain what we’ll do with that donation and why it is so important.

Sisters and Brothers -

In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to our campaign for president. But before I do, I hope you'll give me a chance to explain what we'll do with the donation, and why this request is so important.

Right now, our biggest advantage is the energy and enthusiasm of millions of people who are ready to fight to transform this country. No other campaign has that.

And our job right now is to build the organization and staff in states capable of channeling that enthusiasm into votes.

It's something we've done in places like Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. It's something we have to do more of in places like California and a number of Super Tuesday states, where a lot of delegates are won.

And if we can do that now, we'll be the first campaign to do so. That means we'll be the first campaign building relationships, and the first ones talking to voters.

That would give us a real advantage. One we didn't have last campaign where we had to fight to catch up to the enthusiasm. But that is only possible right now with your support – so here's where I ask:

Can you make a $3 contribution to our campaign today? We will put your donation to work building out our organizations in every state so we can win the delegates needed to secure this nomination. Donating today would give us a big advantage. So this is important.

Here is the truth: running for president is an extraordinarily expensive endeavor. It costs an obscene amount of money. Proving it can be done without begging millionaires and billionaires for money is something I am very proud of. You should be too.

But because the response to emails like this one is primarily how we fund this campaign, it means I have to ask. And this one is a very important request. So thank you for chipping in.
