Leya*’s husband was killed in that event, which left her homeless and the sole provider for her children and grandchildren.  During that period, Gisa became so malnourished that his body started to swell, preventing him from walking or opening his eyes.   A nurse examines Gisa, whose face is swollen from chronic malnutrition, at a Save the Children clinic.  Leya rushed Gisa to a Save the Children-supported hospital, where he was quickly admitted. Our teams diagnosed him with severe acute malnutrition and started treatment immediately.
