Pamela, The EPA has designated vinyl chloride, a volatile and dangerous substance used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), as a "High-Priority Chemical" under the Toxic Substances Control Act. Vinyl Chloride is a key element in the 'microplastics' phenomenon. Microplastics are found in the oceans, reefs, even most human organs. It's about time someone stood up to Big Plastic Polluters! But big business is lobbying hard to weaken the rule, so we need to overwhelmingly support the EPA's action! Sign our coalition's offical comment today and tell the EPA to protect frontline communities from the harms of vinyl chloride! >> Vinyl chloride is a known human carcinogen, linked to liver cancer and other severe conditions, and its presence among frontline communities has caused widespread harm through environmental contamination. PVC facilities in Louisiana have forced entire communities to relocate, with devastating consequences for local populations, particularly low-income communities of color. The EPA is holding a public comment period until October 23rd, 2024 and we need to raise our voices to express the deep environmental justice concerns associated with this chemical. Vinyl chloride is an invisible but deadly threat, especially to communities already burdened by industrial pollution. This comment period offers a rare chance to demand accountability and stronger protections for vulnerable populations. Add your voice to this urgent call for action! Thank you, Mike Phelan Progress America |
