Corruption! At the Supreme Court

Congress and the President have shirked their constitutional role to check the Supreme Court.

Pamela, The Supreme Court is embroiled in a crisis of legitimacy – and it cannot continue. The right-wing has captured the court and stacked it with ideological reactionaries who are seeking to enact policy that could never be passed by the democratic branches of our government. The Supreme Court cannot be a group of kings in robes. We must pass the Judicial Modernization and Transparency Act and rein in the out-of-control Supreme Court! Congress and the President have shirked their constitutional role to check the Supreme Court. The founders of our country did not envision a corrupt, unaccountable Court reigning over America. From undermining abortion rights to removing core protective provisions of the Voting Rights Act, the current structure of the Supreme Court is dragging us backwards in history against the wishes of the majority of Americans, undermining the victories of so many movements for human equality and freedom throughout our history. If enacted, the Judicial Modernization and Transparency Act would modernize the court by expanding the Supreme Court to 15 justices over three presidential terms, prevent partisan blockage on nominations to the Supreme Court, and codify a code of ethics for justices that most members of Congress and the executive branch are already subject to.
