Pamela, This morning the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that the anti-abortion activist groups seeking to ban the pill that's used in more than half of all abortions had no standing to bring the case and summarily dismissed it. So, why did they take the case in the first place? What was the point of creating all the confusion and uncertainty about a medical procedure for a case that should have been dismissed long before it reached the Supreme Court? Welcome to the world of Judge Shopping. Hard-right judicial activists choose the jurisdiction that is most likely to take their side. In this case, they got an anti-abortion in judge Matthew Kaczmeryk who tried to ban mifepristone even during appeals. They shopped for a judge who was even more of a right-wing extremist than Alito―and they got him! Almost every time you see an insane ruling from a lower court, judge shopping is behind it. It lets conservative activists live in a world where Sam Alito isn't an outlier, but a mainstream judge. And it has to stop. Take action: Urge Congress to end Judge Shopping! Justice shouldn't be something you can shop for. The law is the law. But out of control judicial activists are making a mockery of the rule of law. We can end it, but we all need to fight together! Take action today: Stop Judge Shopping! Thank you, Mike Phelan Progress America P.S. Every time a case like this is in the news, it makes people who need care scared to get it.
