Convicting Trump is not enough. What's next?

Now that Donald Trump is a convicted felon, what's next?

Dear MoveOn member,

Now that Donald Trump is a convicted felon, what's next?

1. Trump still leads most polls in the race for president.1 And Trump's MAGA base is now more motivated than ever (see below).2

2. The Trump campaign started fundraising within four minutes of his verdict, calling him "a political prisoner."3 Just look at this email they sent out:

The Trump campaign has said that they raised $34.8 million in donations in less than seven hours after he was convicted—nearly doubling their single-day fundraising record.4 They also brought in many brand-new donors.

The latest surge in Trump's fundraising is a big concern. To be clear, we don't need to fight back dollar for dollar, but we do need the resources to fund our people-powered, volunteer efforts to reach out to voters who are on our side but are less tuned in to politics, to let them know that Trump is a convicted felon and the danger he poses to our country and our world if he is back in the White House.

Our program is set up to reach "surge voters"—young voters and voters of color who do not consistently vote and are often ignored by the political establishment. Many of these voters DO care about Trump's conviction when they hear about it, and it can be a big motivating factor for them to vote!5

Voters who aren't as tuned in to politics need to have a conversation about it for it to really sink in! And that's why MoveOn's volunteer-led voter outreach work is so important.

Will you donate $9 to help us contact as many surge voters as possible, to talk about Trump's conviction and the stakes in this election, including for the issues they care about most?

MoveOn has identified 1.5 million surge voters. Many of them do not pay close attention to politics. As just one example, 17% of voters erroneously believe President Biden is responsible for the repeal of Roe v. Wade!6 Seventeen percent!

Reaching out to voters with facts—including that it's Trump's Supreme Court picks who are responsible for the repeal of Roe—is critically important.

To do that, we're working with thousands of MoveOn member-volunteers to send handwritten postcards to surge voters, call them on the phone, and talk to them face-to-face throughout the summer and fall.

We are laser-focused on breaking through the noise and connecting directly with the cohort of voters that pollsters have identified as key to President Biden's victory and stopping MAGA control of the U.S. House and Senate.

We tested these programs in 2020 and 2022 against a control group whom we did not contact. The results were crystal clear: Voters who didn't hear from us were significantly less likely to vote. Our programs helped to turn out hundreds of thousands of voters who might otherwise have stayed home.

Due to our fundraising challenges, we're now at risk of not being able to contact all of the voters we've identified, which could cause us to lose in key swing states in a close election.

Without your support, we cannot effectively reach enough surge voters to win. Please pitch in $9, or whatever you can, to help today.

While our grassroots donations have somewhat ticked up after Trump's conviction—which is a relief—we still have a BIG funding gap to fill, due to historically difficult fundraising this year.

Surge voters will make the difference in key battleground states this election. And we know that if we can reach enough of them, and run the powerful program we've planned, we can win!

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? The MAGA movement's book bans have forced teachers and librarians across the country to remove books from their shelves and censor what young people can learn. MoveOn is fighting back, including by filling a "Banned Bookmobile" with books that the far right has banned and driving it to key cities and towns to raise the visibility of book bans, hand out banned books for free, and bring people together to stop censorship. To keep up the fight against book bans and the MAGA politicians who support them, we need your help.

Will you make a gift to power MoveOn's critical work?
