Winning Texas is a matter of time and effort. The more effort we put in, the less time it will take to get there. That's why we founded Powered by People in late 2019 — to bring Texans together toward the common goal of speeding up this process and stopping this state's slide toward cruelty, corruption, and authoritarianism. During the 2020 election, we saw clear returns on this work. We organized 20,000 volunteers who registered over 200,000 new voters and helped drive the highest turnout that Texas had seen in nearly three decades. And while President Biden didn't win in Texas that year, he lost our state by just 5.6 points — a narrow margin considering that Hilary Clinton lost Texas by 9 points in 2016, and that Barack Obama lost it by 16 points just four years prior. While the progress is evident, it's understandable how voters and volunteers alike can come out of these elections wondering if all the hard work is worth it. But it's important to remember: Texas last voted for the Democratic nominee for president in 1976; last sent a Democrat to the Senate in 1988; last elected a Democrat to statewide office in 1994. We're bound to get knocked down a few times (maybe a lot of times) before we finally win. The question for all of us is: are we willing to get up again? For Powered by People, the answer will always be yes. We keep our eyes on the prize, knowing that the steps we take today and over the coming years will ensure we ultimately come through for our state and our country. I hope you'll join us by making a contribution of $5 or whatever you can today to help us stay in this fight. DONATE $5 We are in this for the long haul — and we're grateful that you are, too. — Beto |
