Cynthia—
Earlier today, Donald Trump was found guilty of multiple felonies related to his conduct in the 2016 election. He's the first president in history to ever face criminal charges, let alone be convicted of any crime.
It is hard to believe, as I write this from beautiful Mackinac Island, that we will find ourselves in a position where the Republican nominee for president is a convicted felon, and that while there are so many things we must work on that have an impact on people's pocketbooks, this is the issue of the moment in the presidential campaign.
I wish for our nation, and especially for the people of Michigan, that this was not the issue before us. But here we are.
Unfortunately, Trump's guilty verdict will probably fire up his MAGA-base more than ever before. We have already seen his legal issues result in an intense media and fundraising boon for him, and this moment will probably make those moments look small by comparison.
You can expect those resources, and those passions, to be funneled here into Michigan. Because like I've said before, and like we all know, there is no winning the White House without winning Michigan. And because our race is the top of the ticket, the results of our race will weigh heavily on which presidential candidate carries the state.
That will benefit our potential Republican opponent. And it means we have to be ready to face that intensity head-on. So I am asking:
