Taking on millions of dollars in ugly right-wing super-PAC ads is not easy.
Taking on the Democratic establishment is not easy.
But that is exactly what Summer Lee did in Pittsburgh. And she is set to become the next congressperson from Pennsylvania's 12th district! Your contributions and volunteer activism helped make it happen.
As you know, Summer is a strong progressive. She ran an extraordinary grassroots campaign against a corporate Democrat, fighting for the needs of the struggling working class. She understands that government must represent all Americans, not just the 1% and wealthy campaign contributors. In Congress, among many other issues, Summer will fight for Medicare for All, a livable minimum wage, unions, a Green New Deal, and the right of women to control their own bodies.
However, our work is not over.
We have to take our fight to Texas, where progressive Jessica Cisneros is taking on exactly the same ugly super PAC ads that Summer did. And she's also taking on the Democratic establishment.
Jessica's opponent, one of the very few anti-choice Democrats in Congress, is well-funded by over a million dollars in corporate contributions from Big Oil companies. He's also receiving financial support from Senator Joe Manchin and other leaders of the Democratic establishment. And those corporate forces are peddling vicious smears on her good character.
Jessica can win this race. Like Summer, she is offering a bold agenda that speaks to the needs of Texas' 28th district. That's why I'm asking you today:
It is not an accident that Congress is now a bolder and more progressive institution than in past years. If we're going to bring about transformative change in this country — if we're going to take on the powerful special interests — we need to continue electing more great candidates at the grassroots level.
