I grew up in public housing in Savannah, Georgia, but through hard work and determination I was the first in my family to graduate college. Eventually I was blessed to serve as the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s pulpit.
Then, I faced one of my biggest challenges yet when I ran for Senate. From the very beginning of my campaign, Republicans singled me out with the most outrageous attacks imaginable. But we fought hard, and with the help of this grassroots team, I became the first-ever Black Senator from Georgia and helped flip the Senate.
Now, I'm facing another tough fight, and unfortunately at this critical moment, we're about to fall short of our year-end fundraising goal. In a race this close, falling short simply isn't an option. Failing to keep pace for even a second could mean handing Georgia's seat -- and with it, the Senate majority -- right back to Mitch McConnell.
