Pamela, Floridians agree, you shouldn't have to be rich to run for office. That's why Common Cause is urging Floridians to vote NO on Amendment 6 in November.
Floridians want a democracy that reflects our communities and elected leaders who understand our everyday lives, leaders who will enact policies that address the real challenges we face.
But unfortunately, Amendment 6 would decrease the influence of everyday Floridians and make it harder for women and people of color to run for statewide office.
Repealing public financing would make it harder for a more diverse group of candidates to run for statewide office, leave candidates more beholden to wealthy special interests, and decrease the influence of small-dollar donors and ordinary voters.
Amendment 6 seeks to eliminate Florida's long-standing public campaign financing program and is headed to the November 2024 ballot. If you believe that money in politics is a problem in the United States, we need your help to show up and VOTE NO on Amendment 6.
This dangerous amendment proposes the repeal of Article VI, Section 7 of the Florida Constitution, which requires the state to have a public financing program for candidates for Governor and Cabinet who agree to spending limits. And there's more. If Amendment 6 passes, it will trigger implementing legislation that will also repeal the Florida Election Campaign Financing Act - we cannot let this stand.
Pamela, voters should influence elections, not big money donors.
Common Cause Florida urges voters to vote NO on Amendment 6 this November and
We are calling on you to stand up for democracy>>
At Common Cause Florida, we believe democracy should represent everyone, not just the rich and powerful. We've been fighting for public campaign financing for nearly 50 years to get big money out of politics and we won't stop now.
Sincerely,
Amy Keith, Executive Director
and the Common Cause Florida team
