A quick note about Taylor Swift and Election Protection

Hi Pamela, I'm reaching out to talk about two things near and dear to my heart: Taylor Swift and protecting our right to vote. [1] So, when Taylor Swift made that ask – and hundreds of thousands responded – I was filled with hope for the future of our country. But Pamela, we're not out of the woods yet. Right now, some politicians in states like Texas, Florida, and Georgia, are using lies about our democracy to silence our voices. You see, they see 2020's record youth turnout as a problem – not something we should all encourage. And in the U.S. Congress, they're even going as far as using the threat of a government shutdown to pass their voter suppression agenda into law. In her post, Taylor Swift said "the simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth" – something we at Common Cause know all too well. That's why all year, and through Election Day and beyond, our state leaders, activists, and volunteers are hard at work: Defending voters against anti-voter legislation enacted since the last presidential election, like strict voter ID, limits on mail-in voting, or even purges of eligible voters from the rolls. [2] Countering the disinformation that fuels these voter suppression efforts with the truth about the integrity of our elections from trusted sources. Recruiting and training thousands of knowledgeable, nonpartisan volunteers at polling sites across the country to help every voter know their rights and make their voices heard.
