Dear fellow MoveOn member,
As we close out the first quarter of 2024, I'm both hopeful and concerned for what the rest of this year holds for the future of our nation. Let me tell you why.
I'm hopeful because, with 91 indictments, Donald Trump is beginning to be held accountable for his criminal activity and attacks on our democracy.1 And earlier this year, Democrats won the special election in a battleground district to replace George Santos—a good omen for November.2 This comes after last year's elections, where abortion rights won in every single state where abortion was on the ballot.3
These wins are huge—and they cannot be understated.
But the truth is that I'm still concerned. Deeply so. Because the first quarter of 2024 has been rough for fundraising at progressive organizations.
Concerningly, my friends at MoveOn have fallen more than $225,000 behind their first-quarter budget goal. Which means that they are entering the election season with less funding than they anticipated and need to quickly catch up to ensure that the MAGA movement can't steamroll its way back to power.
That is why I am asking you, as we enter the election season in earnest, to recommit to the work that must be done by starting a monthly donation to MoveOn. They are prepared to fight on the front lines all year to stop Trump and MAGA Republicans up and down the ballot, but they need our support to succeed.

No organization in America has a better track record of success in developing cutting-edge strategies to get out the vote and win elections than MoveOn.
Year after year, MoveOn pioneers super-effective strategies to get out the vote.
In 2018, MoveOn's elections program, powered by millions of us, helped fuel a blue wave and end Republican control of the House of Representatives.
In 2020, MoveOn pioneered a program known as "vote tripling," an evidence-based and pandemic-safe voter turnout tactic that turned out tens of thousands of voters in key swing states and districts.
In 2022, MoveOn ran an unprecedented multimillion-dollar campaign to defeat MAGA candidates for secretary of state and elect honest Democrats and progressives who will protect our democracy and count every vote. And MoveOn ended up turning out a remarkable 50,000 voters in swing states who may otherwise not have cast a ballot!
In an election that could be decided by a handful of votes across a few states, turning out 50,000 voters this time around could mean the difference between winning and losing.
The MoveOn staff have shared their plans for 2024 with me. And the plans are impressive and incredibly strategic.
Building off of their success in 2020 and 2022, MoveOn will focus on identifying and turning out the voters likely to make the most impact in battleground states. These "surge voters" are Democratic-leaning young voters, new voters, and voters who have not always shown up to the polls but who became energized to vote after the rise of Trump.
MoveOn's data shows that there are more than 1 million surge voters in battleground districts and states across the country. And rigorous data analysis by elections experts shows that when surge voters show up to the polls in large numbers, Democrats win.4
And turning out these critical voters is exactly what MoveOn's plan does.
Andra, winning is doable, but it won't be easy or cheap. And the polls show that losing is a strong possibility; in fact, Trump is now favored to win.5 That's exactly what happened in 2016, when donors and volunteers didn't show up in high enough numbers, early enough in the cycle, to tip the scales.
Now, with donations down, we're on the precipice of a second Trump term. But there's still time to turn the ship around.
