Dear MoveOn member,
The Supreme Court has released its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization and overturned Roe v. Wade.1
Within moments of the decision being released, Missouri became the first state to activate its trigger law, banning abortion in the state with no exceptions for rape or incest.2 In the coming days, experts expect that at least 25 other states will ban abortion, and many others will further restrict access to the procedure.3
The devastating impact of this decision, made by six unelected conservative extremists, cannot be overstated. We are all feeling the same anger, fear, and sadness as we mourn together during this terrible moment in our nation's history.
Let us turn our rage toward those responsible, the GOP, and make sure they know that by stripping away our rights, they have ensured their own defeat at the ballot box.
To build and show our collective strength, we are asking 1 million MoveOn members to sign a pledge to vote out the GOP this November.
Make no mistake: Friday's decision would not have happened without the coordinated scheme executed by Republican elected officials like Mitch McConnell to break every rule necessary, block the confirmation of qualified judges, and game the system—all with the end goal of punishing people who get pregnant, especially poor people, people of color, and those in the LGBTQ+ community.
But we are the majority, Andra. Eighty-five percent of Americans believe that abortion should remain legal, which means that if we can make sure that voters know who is responsible for denying us our bodily autonomy, Republicans will face sweeping losses this November.4
Over the coming weeks, we will have the chance, together, to join more rallies, volunteer, organize in our communities, and do more to fight back.
But as a first step, let's make a loud, undeniable statement to the GOP by showing them that 1 million MoveOn members are ready to vote them out because of today's decision.
