Today, we want to take a step back and reflect on what's happening at the very heart of this campaign.
The fringe policies, corruption, and incompetence that we see in Texas government today — at the border, on abortion, on guns, on schools, on the electricity grid — are symptoms of a larger problem:
Greg Abbott has stopped listening to the people he was elected to serve.
Instead, he's focused on the agendas of his corporate donors, on preserving his own career, on catering to the most extreme voices in his party, and on keeping himself in power regardless of the cost to the rest of us.
It's a small vision for such a big state. And it's hurting the people of Texas.
Beto has already spent time in counties all across this state, and he's staying on the road to reach people everywhere in Texas.
Everywhere Beto goes, he listens to and learns from his fellow Texans. How they think things are going, what they care about, what keeps them up at night, what they dream for their kids and grandkids.
It turns out that in most communities, people have thought through the solutions to the challenges before them. They don't need someone to tell them what's best for them. They just need someone to show up, listen, be a partner on the issues that matter most — better jobs, better schools, expanded health care access, and safer, healthier communities — and then take action.
The problem is that right now, Texans have a governor who's actively making their lives worse.
Higher grocery prices. Jacked-up utility bills. Skyrocketing property taxes. Texans are paying the price for Abbott's failed policies on a daily basis — literally!
Across this state, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can agree: we're losing the big, bold vision that used to define Texas, a Texas big enough for all of us. Big enough for our dreams and big enough to make them a reality. We've been offered something small, mean, and uninspiring in its place.
But it doesn't have to be this way. We can do better.
If we elect a governor who is focused on delivering for the people of Texas, we will have what it takes to move past Abbott's divisive politics, fix urgent problems like our broken power grid, and guarantee that Texans have great jobs, world-class schools, and the ability to see a doctor. But only if we come together to make it a reality.
