Will you be at the vigil on Jan. 6?

Sign up now for an outdoor January 6 vigil to demand accountability, justice, and protections against future insurrections.

Dear MoveOn member,

When I think about the deadly January 6 riot at the Capitol, the fear runs through my entire body all over again because I know that those involved, including right-wing elected officials, are celebrating what they did that day as they continue to attack our elections, democracy, and freedom to vote.

Since the insurrection, lawmakers in multiple states have made it easier for partisan Republican officials to overturn election results, made it unnecessarily hard to vote, drawn maps that don't fairly represent the diverse population of their states, obstructed the January 6 commission in Congress, and so much more, while treating the insurrectionists like heroes and echoing lies and disinformation about the 2020 election.1

This January 6, 2022, we need to show up and defend the values, country, and democracy we believe in. Will you join an outdoor vigil near Chevy Chase to mark the anniversary and demand action to hold insurrectionists accountable and defend our elections and freedom to vote? With over 100 events across the country, we'll make sure our elected officials are prepared to take action as they return to Washington, D.C.

Legislation to protect our votes and our democracy has already passed the House of Representatives. This includes the Freedom to Vote Act which expands access to voting in every state; the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act which prevents discriminatory voting laws from taking effect; and the Protecting Our Democracy Act, which combats the partisan attacks and unethical behavior we saw under the Trump administration.2,3

Republicans have made it clear that they have no intention of stopping their disinformation, voter suppression, and attacks on free and fair elections—and they have no intention of helping solve the problems by even allowing debate in the Senate. With state legislative sessions about to start in the new year, even more states will consider laws making it easier for extremist politicians to overturn the will of the voters.4

The Senate must act to protect our democracy. RSVP to a candlelight vigil near Chevy Chase on January 6, 2022, to mark this chilling anniversary and demand action.

MoveOn members have been taking action all year to hold the seditionists in the Capitol accountable for their role in the insurrection, including building public pressure to expel them from Congress for treason and running ads demanding GM keep its word and stop political donations to insurrectionists. Together, we've laid the groundwork, and now it is up to Democrats in the Senate to take it over the finish line.

Sign up now for an outdoor January 6 vigil to demand accountability, justice, and protections against future insurrections.

Thanks for all you do.
