We can stop the Trump administration from drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but we need the House to pass the Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act. Send a message to your representative and urge them to support this critical legislation » The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) needs your help, %%FIRST NAME%%. We have a real opportunity to stop Trump's sellout of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Two years ago, Republican leaders shamefully sold out the Arctic Refuge in a provision buried deep in their tax overhaul. Since then, the Trump administration has been rushing to lease this land to Big Polluters. But now, environmental champion Rep. Huffman is pushing a bill in Congress — the
Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act — that would restore protections against drilling in the Refuge, halting all of Trump's Arctic Refuge drilling plans if it passes.
Not only is the Arctic Refuge one of the last untouched places on earth, but the land is sacred to the native Gwich'in people. We cannot stay silent as their land is destroyed by oil and gas drilling.
We're working to get 20,000 messages into the House before the end of May — can we count you in, %%FIRST NAME%%? Don't let the Trump administration turn the Arctic Refuge into a playground for Big Polluters. Send an urgent message to your representative now. GOAL: 20,000 » The Gwich'in people call the Refuge the "Sacred Place Where Life Begins."
Protecting the Arctic Refuge and Gwich'in way of life is a matter of basic human rights. Opening the Arctic Refuge to Big Polluters is yet another example of the Trump administration's disregard for indigenous rights and community voices.
On top of that, you and I know that drilling in the Arctic Refuge would cause immense damage to this national treasure — damage we could never reverse. A critical ecosystem that supports the Porcupine Caribou Herd, wolves, imperiled polar bears, and nearly 200 species of migratory birds could be gone forever.
For years, LCV has stood in solidarity with the native Gwich'in people to resist opening the Arctic Refuge to oil and gas drilling. Because of the efforts of activists like you, we've been able to keep the spotlight on Trump's sellouts and move Congress to act. This is the next big step in that fight. Now as the
Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act moves forward in the House, it's critical that our members of Congress know where we stand. We can't do this without you, %%FIRST NAME%% — I hope you'll act today.
This is a matter of human rights: Protect the Arctic Refuge for generations to come » Thank you for continuing to stand with the Gwich'in people and fight to protect the Arctic Refuge.
