Trump's War parade must be stopped, DC’s mayor can help make it happen

The nation's capital isn't a playground for Trump's fragile ego.

Pamela: It’s a $45 MILLION project to stroke the ego of a man who dreams of ruling like a dictator. 

The Pentagon is coordinating with the White House to plan a huge military spectacle next month. The latest details include 150 military vehicles like tanks rolling through DC streets, 6,600 uniformed soldiers marching past the White House, and 50 helicopters, with fighter jets screaming overhead to recognize the Army’s 250th anniversary on June 14 — and perhaps not uncoincidentally, celebrate Trump’s 79th birthday.

But here’s the thing: This war parade simply cannot happen without support and cooperation from DC officials. 

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, alongside the DC Council, has the power to put up bureaucratic roadblocks at every turn, from requiring Trump’s team to cover the costs of police, security overtime, and road repairs, to guarantees protestors won’t be arrested or brutalized. 

It’s all to say, there’s INCREDIBLE leverage to stop Trump’s tank party in its tracks.

But DC can’t stop this parade alone: If we’re going to stop Trump again, Mayor Bowser needs to go toe-to-toe with the White House — an intimidating proposition for anyone. To do it, she’ll need to know that people across the country are with her — and that’s where you come in, Pamela.

This parade wouldn’t honor the Army, but it would glorify Trump’s anti-democratic power trip.

That’s not all: Sending machines of war through the streets of DC would also cause MILLIONS of dollars in damage, just as DC braces for a $1.1 BILLION budget cut pushed by far-right offices in Congress that will slash everything from firefighters’ funding to school programs. Every dollar that pays for this parade is a dollar that could be invested in the people that make DC great. Simply put, DC — and none of us — can afford a celebration of weapons and war like the birthday party Trump has in mind.

Our nation’s capital is more than a prop in Trump’s relentless march toward authoritarianism. 

Mayor Bowser has spoken out in the past, but with permits being filed and plans in the making, she needs to hear loud and clear from all of us now — because with her help, we stopped Trump’s tank parade fantasy in its tracks back in 2018. And, Pamela, that’s exactly what we’re planning to do again, today.
