Republicans are in a one-sided war against immigrant communities in the United States. They're doing everything they can to embed fascist nationalism into every level of government and are using the false boogieman of "illegal immigrants" to do it. Every day, we're seeing images and videos of undocumented and documented US civilians alike being dragged away from their families by ICE agents at the behest of our crooked federal government, but cities and states are fighting back, refusing to comply with Trump and his enablers' draconian demands.
That's why Congressional Republicans are trying to force their hand. They introduced the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act, which would force cities and state governments across the US to participate in mass deportation actions or risk losing federal money. At risk are crucial programs that support education funding, food assistance, and even grants for crisis centers that take in survivors of domestic violence. Though immigrant communities are the direct targets of this assault, passing this bill would be disastrous for everyone, not just our undocumented neighbors.
We can stop this attack on our rights―but only if you stand with us today. Sign on to STOP the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act!
Congressional Republicans are content to hold important programs hostage to encourage regular people to act as informants to rat out their friends and neighbors. This is not what our country should be about. We must support each other, because while you and your family might not be Trump's target today, that could easily change tomorrow. This bill, if passed, would have a chilling effect on our economy, democracy, safety, and public health. We cannot let Congressional Republicans vilify entire communities to justify their inhumane actions.
Take action now and tell Congress: Oppose the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act to protect our communities!
We are stronger together than we are apart, and we cannot fall for the tricks they use to divide us. Take action now.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
